Choosing a Web Designer

Various small business owners have difficulties with deciding how to make the right choice for designing their website. They search the web for help with the website and find that the choice is harder than they thought. At the moment there are (literally) hundreds of thousands of websites who boasts to be professional web designers. However, one must be careful in selecting the best person or people by which to trust their company image. In this article, I will make an effort to rank web designers into workable groups, and teach someone the difference between the types. Web Design in Regina

Web site designers fall into four general categories: durham amateur, freelance professional, Internet Design Company, Web Expansion Firm.

Freelance Amateur

The majority of web site designers you will come across, especially searching the net, are virtual assistants. That is, those who do web design but are not employed by a web design company. Several are self-employed professionals but almost all of these freelancers are amateur-hobbyist types. They find a copy of FrontPage? was included with their MS Business office? Suite. They learned how fun it could be to make website pages so they started telling their friends that they could “design” web pages.

The “pros” of using an amateur is that they are incredibly cheap. The “cons” are too numerous to mention, but I’ll mention a few. They have no training; they have little understanding of what makes a good website work; they do not understand Web coding or CSS but only FrontPage point and click; they do not understand general design and layout concepts plus they have little real experience. The biggest reason they should be avoided for the serious businessperson, is that their work appears amateurish, that makes your company look amateurish. Who desires that?

Freelance Professional

An expert is often defined by just being paid. People feel that if you are covered something, then you are professional. Might be that’s true in the Olympics, however for the business services world, anyone with a professional until you are established and respected as one because of your clients and peers. Freelancer professional web designers are a big leap from the newbie because they have proven a portfolio of respected work. They may have some sort of certified training and experience and they have credentials that can be verified by contacting references. They have a good reputation with their clients and other professionals. In general, a good freelance professional website design company can be good person to obtain doing your site. But they are hard to distinguish from the amateur when you are just searching the internet.

The upside is, if you find worth keeping they are significantly cheaper compared to a web design company. But that is usually the only upside. If the budget limits you, then a freelancer will do for a tiny project. But anything at all seriously important should be left to a professional company.

Some downsides to by using a freelance pro are that they are usually part-time, meaning they are limited in how much time they can commit to your project. Also, they are limited in what they can do for you. Most freelancers are specialists in one area and generalists in everything otherwise. Some have no skills in anything except their one specialty and often you will have to find others to complete roles. Additionally, freelancers are not always cheap although many of them are aspiring to produce their own company; many are highly sought after and fee $100 per hour or more because of their work. My own advice is, if you have very much to spend, go with a company that includes a team of pros to get the job done in a timelier manner.

Website development Company

This kind of is the next step beyond a freelance professional. The web design company offers the “whole show”. They provide real job management and have drawn together a team of web experts to get a wider range of jobs done. A company provides a far higher level of expertise in web page design, programming, content development and even more.

Such a company is usually very small, yet large enough to deal with larger scale projects. In comparison to the most highly qualified freelance writer, a business has a selection of talent and effort employed by them. The end-result generally is a much higher quality product.

The one drawbacks are on the one palm, the web design company much more expensive than a freelancer since there are many more people on the job. Yet , you get what you pay for rings true. In the other hand, for very large projects or permanent development, web page design companies may be too small and usually do not have the human appel to accommodate that $250, 000 contract. In the end, for serious business people looking for quality and professionalism and who can’t afford the big firm, this is the way to go.
