It can sometimes be difficult to keep up with the advances in technology, especially when it comes to cell phones and all mobile gadgets. When technology moves quickly, it can cause some people to decide to stay behind and use the old gadgets and mobile units. New technology has so much to offer, and anyone that is hesitant to try the new generations of cellular products should consider how mobile technology makes your life easier.

Getting lost is one of the more frustrating parts of traveling. New cellular devices come with very basic GPS programs that can hook up to just about any map and help you find your way to where you want to go. Imagine a world where you can get accurate directions without having to ask anyone at all. With a cell phone, you can do that.

With the advances in social networking and popularity of email, people use the Internet to stay in touch with each other in a variety of ways. A cellular phone with Internet access can help you to receive important emails and messages from your friends and family members even while you are on the road.

Mobile Technology: Makes Your Life Easier

Have you really stopped to think how mobile technology affects your life each and every day? It used to be that if you were going on a date with your spouse, you’d have to leave the number to the restaurant, movie theater or wherever else you’d be so your babysitter could reach you if there were an emergency. Now there’s just your cell phone number and the babysitter can get you no matter where you are (as long as your battery doesn’t die!).

Mobile technology has made things so convenient. Instead of hearing kids fighting on a long car trip, just put a movie on the portable DVD player and enjoy silence. If you’re in an unfamiliar area, you can use your GPS; it knows where you are and where you’re trying to go. Laptops can be pretty handy when you’re on the go so you can get work done while still keeping connected via email, but an Android tablet is even better because you can do all that and they’re smaller and lighter. You can even buy prepaid cell phones for convenience.

Smartphones are essential to many. Not only do we use them to make phone calls, but they’re used for texting, taking pictures, recording video, playing games and music, and so much more. If you want to find a great restaurant near where you are, you can find one in a second along with the reviews of other patrons. You can get an application for pretty much anything you’d ever want to do, especially on Android smartphones because of how versatile they are.

Where would our lives be without these devices? Good thing we don’t have to find out!

Internet and Intranet: What’s the Difference?

Only two out of ten Americans don’t use the internet, so it’s pretty safe to assume that “internet” is a household word. But what is the difference between the internet and the intranet? If you run a large business or are in a computer technology job, you probably know – but let’s say you aren’t.

First off, what is the internet really? The term world-wide-web is very applicable – the internet is a huge web of networked computers spanning the globe. It’s also relatively smart. When one of the network strands of its web is broken, it instantly reroutes the traveling information to another. For example if you run a Google search, under the search bar will be a sentence saying how many files it found and how long it took in seconds. That’s the internet in action.

Internet comes in many forms from different providers, but it is still a part of the world-wide-web. The providers are referred to as ISP or Internet Service Providers. Check out dsl-provider.org and other similar websites if you’re curious about the types of providers.

Now on to the less complex intranet. Unlike the internet, which shares its network with everyone – the intranet is a secure internal network. It’s private and is used primarily to share information inside organizations, typically requiring a password. To make things more complicated, there’s another part of the intranet – the extranet. The extranet is the part of the organization that the customers see, using the AAA protocol or the authentication, authorization and accounting protocol.

What’s the Point of the Blog?

Since the boom of computers, each generation uses them differently. Just as software, internet access, and the look of computers have changed!

It has come to the attention of Pew Internet that in 2010 there is a drastic decline in blogging! Up until this year, blogging has been a means to voice opinions and get feedback from others. Studies show that 17-34 year olds are most likely to use social networks as a means of communication. While others who are in the age range of 30-45 years old are doing more in the research and business arenas.

It is much easier for the younger generations to communicate with friends and family online. The thought of blogging really is meaningless to them in this day and age. Most of those in the age bracket of 18-34 years old have no idea of how to blog or set up a blog page. The world of Facebook and Twitter has taken over how they communicate. These websites let you post information right away and receive responses in real time.

Meanwhile, the Generation X individuals, 30-45 years old, is more into handling daily activity online. This involves working with business applications, online banking, and government websites for tax preparations. You may see blogging in this age bracket if they’re running a business that links a blog page to their site. Even in that, it’s still a challenge to keep up with the blog page due to having enough time or simply remembering to do so.

In any case, blogging is really not that popular in any age rang you study. It’s all about convenience and being available to do other activities in life. Emailing on the other had is at an all time high within the last ten, even to age up to 75 years old.

Being in Love with the Love of the Internet

You can do just about anything on the internet today from shopping, ordering fast food, and checking the weather. You can even go as far as finding that special someone! Is this phenomenon of the internet highway taking too much of our lives away? Are humans taking on too much of the tech age and becoming robots?

In the post internet era, traditionally we meet people face to face on our own. Sometimes we would be set up with a blind date, which most of the time had a 50/50 chance of working out. If it did work, you took the time to get to know that special person to found out who they are by courting them. Going to dinner and movie was the common date night! Unfortunately, we have gotten away from tradition of interaction because the internet has slowly seeped into our day to day process.

There are popular website’s that you can sign up for to meet your love interest, such as eHarmony, Lava Love, and even Facebook, to name a few. Seems simple enough to put in your personal information and start your search! Millions sign up on a daily looking for love or friendships, but the computer age is to blame for us becoming insensitive to our own feeling and emotions toward others.

Part of this reason is the way we live our lives today. We can’t afford the time to get to know people. Unlike the old days, we are in a hurry to do everything including finding love! Just as with the popularity with internet shopping,  individuals have turned relationships into a shopping frenzy. This might be the cause of why many have problems with maintaining a relationship due to the temptation of seeing what is online. Facebook, for example, gives easy access to meet others, but can easily allow room for “cyber cheating” on their marriages or monogamous relationships.

Love, Hate Relationship with Twitte

Since the launch of Twitter back in July of 2006, it has grown to having over 200 million users! On an average day there are over 75 million tweets that are posted to the site. With this awesome success of the internet site, believe it or not, there are many who still have strong resentment for the mini blog page.

Twitter is very similar to Facebook where you post what you are doing. Although there similar characteristics, most find that Twitter is not as user friendly. Part of the blame is that with Twitter you only have a 140 character limit to provide as much information as you can. This may be why people are dissatisfied because they feel limited. Other arguments are that individuals have nothing creative to contribute to the site which can also cause frustration.

Having people follow you on Twitter can be challenging to users in the beginning. With Facebook, you can request to be friends with someone by searching their name and clicking a button. Or if you are friends with someone, you can easily see who they know and request friends from their list. Twitter on the other hand, it is not as easy as that! You have to know the name or Twitter I.D. of the person you are looking for. You won’t be able to see who others are following which cause the site to be non interesting for newbies.

If you are having trouble getting others follow you on Twitter, you can always ask friends and family if they have an account. If they do, get their Twitter information to start following them and ask them to do the same for you. Another hint is to tweet as much as you can! It may seem like you are putting things out there in thin air, but the more you tweet, others will find you because your page will eventually be featured as “someone you should follow.

If you have ever used the internet faithfully you know there are millions of scams out there! What makes this so easy for scammers it’s cheap to create website pages and post bogus information to make you think its legit. Furthermore, con artist can send out simple emails that look important and require you attention. Here some to things to be cautious of if you think this is happening to you:

Work from Home Scams:

This is one of the top swindles that are circulating the internet today. Millions of offers go out saying that you can make thousands of dollars while working a few hours a day at home. If this seems too good to be true, it is! Don’t bother signing up because in the long run they will cheat you out of your hard earn money!

Pop ups or Emails for Free Goods:

At one time or another you have seen pop ups to get free goods or you have gotten emails about responding to get items like computers or cell phones. Fact of the matter it’s to get you to sign up with other offers and create a pyramid scheme to earn money on their behalf!

Money Transfers to Your Bank Account:

Another scam that people fall for is people from other countries asking for your banking information to wire you money. It can be for so called “check cashing jobs” or you have inherited the funds. Never give out you bank information or other personal data about yourself!

Credit Repair Companies:

You may get offers from no name credit companies promising to raise your credit score. In reality, if they are legal, they wouldn’t have to solicit people via email for business! This is a way for the con artist to get your personal information; like social security number, and steal your identity!

Always use wisdom and investigate any emails before you respond to them. Scams are everywhere!

World Wide Web. . .The New Drug of Choice

Many in the world today live on the internet for various reasons. Whether it is work or play, just about all of society is glued to a computer screen. Could this be the next legal drug in the cyber world? If you think about it, you can be anything you want and do whatever you please online without others knowing. It’s a land of make believe for the quite and the bored individuals.

From 2006 to 2009, nearly 20 percent of internet users have admitted that it is hard for them not to log on to the internet several times a day! 15 percent said that they stay on the internet much longer then what they intended. Ten percent out of the 20 declared that pharmacy online the internet is a way of escape from their reality. It’s all the access to the world without leaving the comfort of your own home!

This new problem is no different then drugs or alcohol. An addiction is something that you do over and over again to put yourself on a high without ceasing. It gets to a point when you do it on auto pilot and not realizing that you’re consumed with it! This is what most people do when on the internet. The majority of the time individual surf the net not looking for anything in particular!

Some signs that you may be hooked are:

-Surfing the web instead of interacting with people.

-Checking email, bank accounts, or social pages several times a day.

-Not being truthful about how much time you spend online.

-It is the first thing you doing in the morning and the last thing at night before bed.

Understand that the net is not a new evil. If anything it has helped us evolve, but just like with anything in life you have to learn to do things in moderation!

Peek-A-Boo, The Boss may see You

The desire of wanting to log on to the internet is always there when working that nine to five. You have down time and want to do shopping or checking out the scores of last night games! The spreadsheet that is due at the end of the day just doesn’t interest you as much. So you hit that link to give you full access to the cyber world!

In the workforce today, businesses are cracking down more then every to keep internet usage to a minimum. This is done by monitoring the amount of time one spends on the web. Some businesses have gone as far as blocking the internet as a whole.

Most employees feel that this is an evasion of privacy when having cheap prescription drugs their usage clocked. Some feel they are being treated like a child while others propose that it is a point of distrust. On average, nearly 98 percent of employees go online during work hours for non work related issues! This causes their productivity to be interfered with, which eventually disturbs stats in the company. The internet is very useful for we live in the technical world, but there is a fine line between abuse and necessity.

Employers don’t argue that the internet is needed in the workplace, but on their end, they have to make sure that productivity is not in jeopardy. Higher authorities see it that if employees have nothing to hide, then what’s the problem about monitoring the usage. To keep from having those issues, some companies only have something called the intranet. This is a gateway to only conduct business in the within the company. There is no way for a person to access any website pages what so ever.

When it comes down to it, the web is to be used as a tool and not all fun and games. There is a responsibility that both parties must uphold.
